What is the proper procedure for breaking in a rebuilt motor?

How much oil consumption is considered normal during break in?

Thanks!

Id worry only if the engine used more than a qt in the first hundred miles, after that oil use should drop off to much less than a qt per thousand miles or even less (usually far less) but on a loosely set up race engine with low drag rings thats about normal, drive it at varing loads and rpms after the first 30 minutes and Id personally drive it briskly and accellerate and de-accellerate to put a load on the rings to seat them under differant loads but Id stay under 5000 rpm for the first 150 miles or so and watch the temp and oil pressure constantly

use a good petroleum base 10w 30 oil with high zinc content and replace the filter after the first few hours

use of G.M. EOS and a MOLY CAM LUBE is recommended

do some high gear low rpm accelerations to about 4K and some engine braking (if automatic, do as good as you can w/ the auto tranny), this will build cyl. press and force the rings into the walls to seat them. If you baby it you'll end up with an oil burner
