The steering wheel’s airbag was very sticky. It was distracting and made the steering wheel ugly.

To clean it, I used ammonia and blue paper shop towels.

Make sure you are in a well ventilated area when using ammonia. 👍🏿

You don’t have to rub hard.

I kept the towels generously wet with the ammonia.

As the towel became black I switched it out to clean one.

As I continued, the sticker’s glue gave way.

The image below is the ‘just cleaned’ result.

After cleaning, I used Griot’s Interior cleaner to finish it up then applied TurtleWax Protectant.

Great! Glad to help give any additional information if you need it. Just took time. When you have removed the sticky the steering wheel will seem dull and, of course, not be sticky.

How did the 'cleaning' go?

Got mine cleaned up except for two quarter sized places on the airbag. At that point I quit. I got tired of the horn honking when I was rubbing it. It is still dull. Maybe today I'll get those places done and the wax/polish it up. I wonder why after all these years it started getting sticky?

As an afterthought, the fuse for the horn could be pulled.

I did not rub hard enough to engage the horn to clean the steering wheel.

I am unsure of why that particular part becomes sticky other than the material it is made of differentiates from the other material the rest of the steering wheel is made of.

I thought about pulling the fuse but that seem like work and I am basically allergic to work.
