my hood latch release cable is holding on by a thread, fraying right at the end by the latch assembly. Do I have to but the cable and handle from ecklers:

http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?pf_id=44520&dept_id=1457

or what's the best route to go here? Can I just thread a new cable through the old sleeve and attach it to the old handle?

I'm glad I caught this before it snapped!

You can, but the handle is attached to the cable. I changed the whole deal because ths "sheath" was rotting away from the heat anyway.

Personally, I think the solid wire is the way to go and is stock. Some of the repros used stranded cable (airplane cable) and these are more difficult to fit.

The solid wire will run right back through your original sheath to the latch.

FWIW: I run two stops on the end of my release cable. The AIM calls for one; the second is for insurance.
