Reversed hood hinges.....

Some of you may have seen another thread about my up and over air induction for the TPI, and so I have pix of the crude install and shot of the hood in place with the pins in front......not all that difficult a deal, but not happy about the dents in the up/over 45* bend pipe I had to collapse a bit for clearance....can't win....

anyway, the correlary to that trick is to hinge the hood reverse from a normal C3....back/cowl hinges.....

got the mock ups done, hood in place, a few problems, but nothing major so far....it does go up and down....but it's a bit tricky....I need some tuning...read hammer on carb.....  :rolling:

then I will pix it....

took all damn day, but...IT WORKS!!!!

GOT it welded up to final today....the hinges are in place and functional....one of the very few IF ANY sharks with the stock HOOD hinged near the COWL, and not up front, backwards....

going to paint the hinges white for pix tmrw, so the stand out, put it together temporarily, then take it apart some day for a black coating....

otherwise all the pix in the world will do NO good....

this is slicker than snot on a brass doorknob....  :rolling: :smack
Can't wait to see the pics
I am intrested in seeing this also. Looking forward to seeing the pics.
Lets see some pics Gene!!!

OK, go to my site and view the last 3 pix....that shows you in white for contrast what they look like installed and working...

the hood is on and goes up and down pretty good, still need a bit on finalizing, but certainly not enough to worry over....

they are Sillouteet/Lumina mini van hinges....those ant eater looking things in the junkyards....right and left hinges are as used...

they are mounted so the front most pivot is 31" from the forward horizontal lip of my '72 here on each side...the rear most pivot point is rubbing the wiper door mount very slightly....the bracket on the driver's side is really simple, but the a/c box on the pass side made that one an absolute bitch fought tooth and nail, dragged that dirty bitch throug the woods by the hair, knocked it in the head with a ball bat, and then strung it up kicking and screaming.....most of the sounds coming from ME.....un??

so the main mounting plate is 1/8 thick 3" wide steel on the driver's side welded onto the hinge plate and the useless vertical steel cut off the hinge...the counter balance springs are both gone, as the 'lever' they pivoted on....
on the pass side, the really hard one....I used the same steel off the stock latch position...and got welded to a 1" angle iron, notched into and around the a/c duct/housing...which was notched down in a reliable amount to accept the iron...then the iron was notched, bent, welded into a position the hinge plate could then be welded....

I drilled and bolted the plates/hinges for mock up/test...then this morning a buddy final welded it all...
Painted white for contrast, and pix this AM......

all I can say so far is....it's GREAT!!! so far, I use a stick of about 4' long to support either off the first frame cross member in front of the a/c condensor, OR top of the cross support....

I have to pull forward on the hood to lift it, but it pops up easy, and opens to nearly vertical....

SO one of the damn few if any sharks with a rear hinged hood....

pinned in front....simple, they are just stainless through the hinges and drilled though the hood mounting bolt holes, up and so to use a stainless washer and clevis pin....ala sail boats....
