In a country of 300,000,000, there are 5,000 deaths from food borne illnesses. This sounds really bad, but is it? Can it reasonably be pushed lower? I wonder how many other countries of 300 million have fewer deaths from food. Those raw numbers mean very little. The question is, how does it compare to other developed countries and how does it compare to the past? Without that information, we could be doing really bad or we could be the best in the world.
