I want to use 17x11 50mm offset rims on my C4 with 335/35/17 tires. How will it fit, will there be any drivability issues, will there be any rubbing?
Rubbing... well... you will get more sidewall bulge on both faces of the wheel, and you won't get that flat sidewall look like you will with the recommended 315 tire.Honda Hunter said:I want to use 17x11 50mm offset rims on my C4 with 335/35/17 tires. Most 335/35R17 tires will FIT on 11.0-13.0 rim... well my head will fit in my microwave but it doesn't mean I'm gonna do it. :laughing:BigMikeyT88 said:Will 335's even fit on a 17/11?
Alright Patrick thanks, If I wanted to put D/R's on my car do you think 315 would be suffient or should I go bigger? I want to get my 60' down. TIAPatrick said:Most 335/35R17 tires will FIT on 11.0-13.0 rim... well my head will fit in my microwave but it doesn't mean I'm gonna do it.
Each tire manufacturer specifies a recommended wheel width for best performance of a specific tire, that includes ride quality, tire wear, and sidewall performance.
I would never put a 335 on a C4 unless you NEEDED a 335 on your C4. The additional rolling resistance technically will hurt gas mileage too.
315's look great and should fit in there nicely.
With my 300 RWHP Grand Sport I could effortlessly spin the 315 drag radials around town.BigMikeyT88 said:Alright Patrick thanks, If I wanted to put D/R's on my car do you think 315 would be suffient or should I go bigger? I want to get my 60' down. TIA
Depending on rear alignment, most 315's I have seen look flush with the body on 17x11" GS wheels with that exact offset.Honda Hunter said:I puled 1.5-1.6'S with 17X11 315/35'S with my Camaro. I'm sure with my combo i could warrant the use of 335's but not at the risk of them touching the fender when taking a turn.
Anyways let me get this straight. you can use 315 35's W/ 17x11 50mm offset just fine but with 335's theyll stick out a little past the fender. Is this correct?
Thanks for the great info. I still want to know will the 335's rub the fender during launches or hard turns? The 335's I'm talking about are BFG's btw.Patrick said:Depending on rear alignment, most 315's I have seen look flush with the body on 17x11" GS wheels with that exact offset.
335's most certainly will stick out on the same wheel.... how visually dramatic depends tires and the sidewall/tread design, on the rear alignment... or if it has been lowered in the rear.
For those who want to split hairs over measurements, I put a 285 on a 17x11 rim and it looked like ghetto pimp mobile. The 315 looked perfect. And, that's hardly a big difference measurement wise... but it's VERY NOTICABLE......
Thanks, I was planning on getting another pair of 17X11 for the back and mounting D/R's (315 or325's)on them and just swap them out when I go to the track. I don't wanna ruin my Sumitomo's just yet.Patrick said:With my 300 RWHP Grand Sport I could effortlessly spin the 315 drag radials around town.
When heated up, they can reduce your 60 foot time, but not a huge improvement over street tires -- plus you now get poor (dangerous) handling in the rain, and noticable "squirm" and sidewall flex around corners on dry ... what you will see for sure is more consistent 60' times at the track.
But, you won't be able to push the car as hard around town... it won't handle as well or be as predictable as a non-drag-radial street tire.
I drove around with drag radials for a year, and I was THRILLED when I put on the Sumitomo tires on again, felt like a whole new car.

Although sticking out, it's unlikely they would come in contact with anything if the suspension is at stock height.Honda Hunter said:Thanks for the great info. I still want to know will the 335's rub the fender during launches or hard turns? The 335's I'm talking about are BFG's btw.
Above all else, you want the right tire in the right size. Bigger tires on narrow rims don't impress anyone, weigh more (2-5 lbs each) and won't handle or ride as well as the correct tire for the rim (less weight per area on the now larger contact patch).BigMikeyT88 said:Thanks, I was planning on getting another pair of 17X11 for the back and mounting D/R's (315 or325's)on them and just swap them out when I go to the track. No sir. my goal isnt to make them stick out. My goal is to get the biggest drag radials possible for the rim. I was thinking of getting some 17x10's for the front. Would that be a problem or should I just go with 9.5's up foward?Patrick said:Although sticking out, it's unlikely they would come in contact with anything if the suspension is at stock height.
But.... could it happen? I'd say yes... if you went airborn over some railroad tracks, likely all 4 tires would hit the inner fenders... and in the case of the rear... the outer fender too. Possibly causing damage to the body or a blow-out.... really hard to know and dangerous to test and find out.
Are you going to make your front tires stick out as well so they match?
Drag radials have limited sizes, for instance, the widest BFG drag radial for a 17" rim is the 315. Not sure about other brands, haven't been keeping up with it.Honda Hunter said:No sir. my goal isnt to make them stick out. My goal is to get the biggest drag radials possible for the rim. I believe youre correct. i thought I had seen them from BFG but it was 18's I was thinking about. I found that Hoosier makes some but they look way to dangeres for the street. I think Kumho makes some also but I cant find them. I may just stick with the 315's for better selection.Patrick said:Drag radials have limited sizes, for instance, the widest BFG drag radial for a 17" rim is the 315. Yeah I agree, I want the right tire size for the rim. I'll probally go with a 315 or 325 D/R to be safe, 335 seems a little big for the 17X11 rim. Thanks Patrick:thumbsup:Patrick said:Above all else, you want the right tire in the right size. In fact, I can't think of a single positive of going with a 335 on a 17x11.
In 17" ? Never have.Honda Hunter said:That is a nice burn out. Where and what brand 325 DR's have you seen?
