Smashed LG headers ... oops

When you fly off a decreasing radius turn on a road course... sometimes you don't go into sand... but slam the belly of the car on rocks and boulders.

I managed to not just dent the LG street header collectors, but I dented 3 or 4 of the tubes too. Certainly there will be a tad less flow.

If you wanted to create those dents yourself, you'd likely need a sledgehammer.

Even with the damage, I'd do it all over again. It was so worth it.

Without question.
Is there going to be anything left of that car after SM?
Well, I likely could have left spring mountain with tire tread and zero dents if I wasn't playing road course cowboy and trying to find my driving limits, the limits of the tires, and the limits of the car.

A few times I just went to far with it. But, that's how I learn.
Sm

I thought that SM stood for Spring Mountain motorsports ranch. Now I realize that Patrick thought it meant automotive sadomasochism.
I'm glad Patrick was able to bring the DC Z home in one piece (dents don't create new pieces) and under it's own power (almost).
Roy.
I really think Pat is trying to destroy this car so he has an excuse to buy a NEW Z. We southern boys still have dirt track racing if you're interested in giving it a shot. If that doesn't finish the Z off, let's see if we can sign him up for figure-8 school bus racing on Speed...

The tow truck driver and I had a great 90 minute chat all about dirt track racing. He's been doing it with his son for 20 years.

I'm not trying to destroy the Z, in fact after it's fixed and detailed it's gonna look great again. But, I will drive the car as hard as I can on the track , and deal with the aftermath at a later point.

I'm not sure I agree. To me, Pat has the stones to put the DC-Z out on the edge to test his skills vs. the car. I just wish I had his intestinal fortitude to test the limits of the car! Is Patrick on the edge, absolutely. Am I envious, you bet your ass!

Just wait until you see the front page press release this week about what we are doing starting Friday.

I hope the DC Z is finished!:D

No question that I'm having the time of my life.

And, no day goes buy that I don't look out in the garage at these two blue Corvettes and remember what it felt like to be a little kid and thinking there was no hope to ever own one.
No question that I'm having the time of my life.
The best part in my eyes? You spent the most recent experience with your son! Nothing better than sharing the best parts of your life with your kids! Very cool! :partyon:

Wow! What can be done to repair the headers, if anything? Do they need to be replaced, or what? That's some serious fun:devil: You can't really be enjoying yourself if you're not causing a little destruction, right?

I have one son that is 26 now and attending college in Pitt. PA. Its really hard to say no to him after he asks to use the vette to go out on the town. He is at that age where he understands, but then he doesnt.

I told him when he gets that Bachelors Degree and a well paying job to just go order ya a vette. That time is getting awefully close.

And second, he needs to take care of me! Wont be long before I am 60. I just do not want to give him 435 rwhp to go pick on Mustangs with. If that was to happen, I want to be in the vette with him while he kicks some ass. Now that to me is the part of our life I want to see
Well Patrick your the King. I put the Z up on the lift to change the oil to day. and only found minor damage around the lifting pads looks a little sand blasted on the floor pans. had to epoxy the holes around the screw retainers that hold the front air splitter(snow damage). can't wait for the excitement to start friday. Givem hell...
Pat...I hit a wooden 4x4 with my 2000 TA with LG longtubes, going about 70 mph....thought I ripped the whole car apart...what a nasty sound. It did destroy part of the cat ,but the LGs held up well. I thought I was the only one to dmage headers.....
