So how do I mount these seat covers?

I ordered and have now received a set of new leather mounted seat covers. They seem to be very very nice. I have a '92 coupe and I ordered '96 seats. I have the standard seats not the sport seats.

The bottoms snapped out and were easily replaced. The issue now is that although I can get the old seat back cusions out of the frames it appears that the newer cusions have a different mounting system. The original seats have a heavy gauge wire that hooks into some clips inside the seat frame. The new seats have no heavy gauge wire to engage the clips and there is also a zipper up the back. My immediate thought was to just put the cusion in the frame and pull the cover around the back of the frame and zip 'er up. No joy. The covers aren't even close to big enough to get around the back of the frame. Further there is no cut out to accomodate the release lever that allows the seat to flop forward. :WTF

What now?

Thanks in advance for any assistance that you can provide!

So you have a 92 vette with the OEM seats and you boguth 96 mounted covers for it??

If so, they will not work, the back frame is completely different then the 92..
Okay...

I wish that any of the 5-10 people that I questioned about this very issue would have mentioned that. :spanked:

So what now? Will the '94-96 frames bolt onto my '92 bases? And if so, any idea where I might find them and what a reasonable cost would be? They certainly wouldn't need to be perfect, as far as I can tell They would be entirely covered by the new covers.

...dammit

I may be stuck with the old backs and the new bases.

Again thank you.

I replied to THIS POST of yours asking about swapping in the newer seats. In this post it looked liek you found complete seat you would get recovered..

And there is THIS POST taht said the same basic thing.

Now, what you need are the 94-96 back FRAMES to bolt to the bases of your current frames. The bases did not change 84-96 but the backs did in 96.

you could try www.vette2vette.com for the parts. or search the forums or ebay for some 94-96 seats with junk foam and leather and you are good to go.

I have opne complete 94 seat, if you find a second one we could work out a deal on it if interested
I have two frames only. If you still need.
Thanks for the additional info

Jeff,

Just want to be sure. I've ready your second reply a couple of times and it seems to contradict itself. You state that the seat bases were consitant from 84-96 but that the seat back changed in '96. Then you went on to indicate that you have a '94 seat that would work if I could find another. The products that I have are for a '96. If the design was a single year only would the '94 frames still work?

Nicko,

Thanks very much. How much would you want for them? I'll need to try to figure out the shipping as well. What info could you give me that will help me estimate the shipping.

Thanks guys!
