from what I have been told by several top name Corvette drag racers is that the C6 Z06 diff is good all day into the 8s and the ZR1 diff is good all day into the 6s. Mark Carlyle makes about 3000hp and runs a glide/ZR1 diff combo. Him and I also talked quite a bit about trans and diff choice and as long as I don't have aspirations of sub 8-sec passes I would be just fine with a built C6 Z06 diff.

He also said that I could take a 4L65 reliably into the 9s with no issues- as long as I didn't want to get into the 8s. Then a 4L80 becomes the better option.
Its a Risk we all choose to take in different paths.

When an IRS part breaks at 140 & you crash into a Retaining Wall.
Or flip over on the roof the other racers will be OK.
Not in the car with you Hardcore.
What do those guys have for race budgets every year ?
Who pays thier Bills to Race ?
Do they race on budgets of $ 2-8k per year ?
What do those C6 ZR1 Diffs cost $ ??
Just 500 bucks ??

Being a Corvette & Plastic & glass, if it crashes from broken IRS parts failing will the body survive with Metal Creases & dents only ???

I can get a C6 diff and fully build it for about $2500. A ZR1 diff for about $3000. Going solid axle is going to cost at least $10,000 given the new custom rear cradle, suspension, and possible frame modifications.

I do appreciate your help, but there is just no way in hell I will be able to afford a solid axle conversion in the next 5 years as I will still need to do trans and **** on top of it.

My goal for this car is 9s as my DD, if I can do it reliably for a $2500 diff and $3500 trans as opposed to a $10,000 diff and a $3500 trans that is by far the option I have no choice but to take.

I know I am giving up some et and mph, but this isn't a pro drag car, it is the car I drive every day, every where.

I thought we would take a look at main drive shaft options.
It applies to all C4 owners & C5 owners that choose a Conventional Engine Drivetrain layout over the Torque Tube assembly.
The stock C4 main drive shaft is aluminum. Thin wall design.
No way it will hold up long term to extreme shock loads of 5,000 RPM Launches & HP 600- 3,000 like modern drag cars have.
Mild steel, Chrome Moly Steel, Thicker wall aluminum alloy,
Carbon Fiber, & even Titanium tubing driveshafts are available custom made.
I will eventual need a custom drive shaft for my Solid axle 4-Link project. I would not use the stock shaft even it does fit. Safety issue.

What is hard to believe,
The Ford 5.0 guys can walk into their local dealership, laydown $160 cash & buy A Ford Motorsport Aluminum Driveshaft( U-joints & Yoke included assembled) that is good for 1400 HP, 5,000 RPM starting line Launches Dead Hooking 1.1-1.3 60' Foot times, Rear bumper dragging & Front end in the air, 8- second runs.
I have been there at the tracks & in Pits & garages at night helping.

WTF GM ????

I will likely use a Strange Chromemoly or Denny's Nitrous driveshaft.
Mark Williams is Exotic. $$$.

There is no feasible way to move the transmission to the front of the car. There is barely room for the bellhousing.

The Moser 12 C5 kit moves the trans to the rear of the engine. Up front.

Must be room.

Its just glass.
Cut it. Repatch it up with glass & resin.

RACE CAR.

Not dead slow show & shine do nothing.

What do you think every drag racer does ????
Bolt on **** is gay.
