I have not used that particular brand of headers, so I can,t be 100% certain, but in most cases, and with HOOKER and HEADMAN headers you can get access, without removing the headers , but its far easier if you remove or at least partly loosen the header to cylinder head bolts.
but in any case if you have a decent set of (4) 12 ton jack stands , http://www.harborfreight.com/12-ton-jack-stands-34924.html
which allow you a good deal of room under the corvette once its up, and a decent floor jack to do it with, and a mechanics creeper or IDEALLY a lift in your shop, its not going to be a major project in any case
yeah! I know a LIFT seems so easy, but in many cases I actually prefer the floor jack, jack stands and creeper, probably the result of 35 years or working that way even though I now have an excellent lift
I cant speak as to the TPIS headers but I know I can get the starter out without removing or loosening my melrose headers. It is a twist and slip and slide type situation though, but it can be done.
On my L-98 I could remove the starter without messing with the header, they were Melrose. On my LS with Melrose I have to loosen the header but not to make room to get the starter out but because one of the bolts is too long and it hits the header when loosened so you can't get it out of the starter.
Not long ago i removed my Delco Remy stock 1987 starter
without removing my Hedman's Elite headers.
Like the above description , it was not easy since you have to move and twist the starter a lot to pull it from there.
But it was possible and i succesfully replaced it with
the Hitachi Enforcer mini starter.
Stainless Works long-tube headers on my 91. had to loosen the header bolts to get the GM 1455702 mini-starter out. the "make-model-year" parts counter gave me a starter that looked the same, but with a shorter motor. more importantly, the mounting block was not as tall, so my original factory starter bolts were too long, bottomed out with 1/4" of starter free play. yeah, I know you're supposed to replace the knurled bolts at every turn.
thank you for posting the pictures, it verify,s a point alot of guys ignore, that there are dozens of different O.E.M, and aftermarket mini starters, and most will be slightly different in size/length/diameter thus someone with a nearly identical engine and headers may have only minor issues installing/replacing a starter while you might have more extensive and time consuming issues , even mandating, temporary header removal from head studs
What's up, guys and gals?
Long time, no post. I used to have the screen name 1996man on this forum but it has been several years ago and I can no longer get access to that old email so I created a new screen name so hopefully I can start interacting with this great community again.
Let me see...
one thing I learned long ago... ask questions, you'll be amazed at what other people know that you might not know,
Ive got a guy in my shop that has zero brake fluid pressure on the pass side front brake caliper feed line
there does not appear to be anything wrong with the master...

As some of you may recall, SoCaliVette was working hard on creating a Carbon Fiber Targa Top for our beloved C4's. Original Thread I'm here to present the test of this roof, including install on a frame, answer questions and be as helpful as possible to folks who have an interest. All I ask is...
