i'm having some issues securing the taillights on my `77 corvette. i've checked the connection, and its fine, checked the bulbs and they're fine. i bought a news pigtails, and wired them in -- they are fine, but when i go to put the cover back on the bulb and secure it they dont work. when the lights are on and you wiggle the bulb it lights up but other than that there is no illumination. any suggestions??

Check the sockets to make sure they are crimped on tight. The ground on taillight bulbs is the socket and they tend to loosen up.

The metal contacts at the base of the bulb sockets get flattened out over the years allowing the bulbs to rattle around in the sockets, and making for poor electrical connections.

Make sure there is no electricity to the bulb sockets before you try this!

Get a small metal hook and grab the metal tabs at the base of the bulb socket. Gently pry up on them so they make good contact when the bulb is reinstalled in the socket. Hopefully this corrects your problem.

Good luck!
