tank cap offset and canister delete

Hey everyone.
Ive got two small questions about the rebuild.

1) before the frame off my gas tank cap was in the center of the recess in the body, yesterday when I looked after the frame off, it was offset... What I recall is that the gas tank can't move too much left and right. Is there so much movement possible in the bodymounts? (I think the offset is about 1/2 3/4 of a inch.

2) the ye ol vapor cannister. I accidentally saw that lying about amongst the other junk pieces. What I've read here in some other posts its not really a requirement. To avoid the fuel odours is it best to reroute the outlet on the carb to the fuel intake? I think all the vapor return lines on the LH side are removed. I did not have the time to check what they did near the gastank. Blocking the connections off would be a good idea? Furthermore I have a similair cap like this one http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?pf_id=47803&dept_id=123, I presume it's not vented when the seal is installed and that it would rattle if you remove the seal. Are there any alternative lockable caps?

Thanks
Nick

Loosen the fuel tank mounting straps. It will slide enough to line up.
Thanks, I'll give that a go!
Anyone has some input on the canister please?

I would use the canister, as to get the fuel vapors outta the tank under a mild vacuum, from above the primary throttle plates...not main engine vac....

there are actually two lines from canister to carb...one to main vac, which senses if the engine is running to open the valve on the canister...allowing the mild vac to suck the fumes outta the canister....

the line to the canister comes off a line on the drivers' side, which first passes through a fuel separator float valve...black plastic about 2" cube and two lines....one in to the tank, and one out to the metal line going along the frame to the canister up forward....
