Is there any reason for the angle that GM put our tops in the car? I want to change the angle for more clearance in my storage area.
I was thinking of raising the brackets by the seats but am worried about hurting or breaking either the top or if your in an accident would the top be more dangerous? Any opinions or ideas would be useful. I was thinking of wood or fabricating brackets to raise it then cover it in carpet to match.

Disaster!

First, I'd worry that changing any angle at the front brackets could result in the top popping out of the single "snap-in" point at the hatch glass.

Also, u can raise the bracket (by the seat), but you can't change the "slit" on the bracket itself that the top slides into. Basically, by raising the whole bracket, the top will not fit in securely, as it would if it was in the standard position.

My 2 cents!
