The relentless pursuit of horsepower

Hey folks. Got a question for those of you far more informed than I regarding the C6. Like many of you, I'm addicted to speed and squeezing out as many ponies as possible short of getting a cam and invalidating the warranty (I'm sure I'll get over this soon and take that step). I'm thinking of getting the Fast Intake Manifold. I'd like to reach 400RWHP, for no good reason other than my own edification and thrill seeking. I'm at 375rwhp now with kook headers, corsa touring/x-pipe and high flow cats, vararam intake, throttle body spacer, thermostat and tune with HP tuners. Does anyone have any data on what I might expect to gain with the FAST Intake Manifold and perhaps the Lingenfelter MAF? If I do decide to go forward with this, it would be the 90mm model, correct?

And by the way, there's a shop out west who sells the FAST Intake on ebay for $737 plus $35 shipping and an additional $65 for the necessary adapter kit for the LS2. Best deal I can find.

Thanks in advance, Dr. Tim

I am interested in the same 400 RWHP. I am currently at 372 with Headers, Honker, and a Tune. The tuner I have been using, Sean at OCC, recommends the FAST, and 1.85 Roller Rockers and he said I should be at 400 RWHP or slightly above. I am pretty sure the rockers will void my warranty on the engine, and I have read many post with widely varing opinions on doing the rockers. So I am still in the research stage and am planning another trip to go talk to Sean about the rockers and other options. I will be interested in the opinions you get here.

Good Luck
Ive had the FAST and swapped for the GM L92/L76 set up w/cam. I can tell you I gained 16.5 RWHP from the FAST, but zero improvement on the strip. If all you're looking for is dyno numbers, then you'll be happy. The FAST works best with aftermarket heads(improving the ET at the strip). As far as voiding the warranty, you may have a hard time getting work under warranty with the FAST under your hood as it sticks out like a sore thumb, unless you paint it. You'll also have issues getting the engine covers to fit back on, mine would not go back into place with the FAST installed. The other issue with the FAST is you'll have to modify your firewall for it to fit(i.e. cut your car and use an install kit or lay new fiberglass)which also, if you're not doing the work, is $$.You;ll also experience a new, odd sound, hollow and a little droning. If you're going to do more performance mods later, say heads and cam, then I say go with the FAST, if you're not, you can have your intake ported and see maybe 8-10 rwhp. And yes, the 90mm model is the one to use.

Evilways,
Have you been to the track yet with your setup? Can you tell any seat of pants difference after your L92 L76 install? I am picking up my new 06 vette with similiar mods as yours on friday.

If it doen't rain, I'll be at the track this Sat and will post results. Previously the car ran a 12.0 before this setup. SOTP tells me the car pulls much harder than before and gets to 100+ quicker,2nd and 3rd are absolute monsters, but I guess the big signs that light up will tell me the truth.
Evilways-

Did you replace your FAST with the Holden L76 Intake Manifold? Did you get better HP gains with it? I see that it does appear more like stock than the FAST. Where did you get it? Is it compatible with the LS2? Sorry for the barrage of questions :) Tim

I swapped the FAST out due to wanting more HP and torque.Since aftermarket heads alone was more than the total cost of the L92 set up, I went that direction. It looks dead stock and idles very well too. The avg person at the track won't be able to tell the difference. Yes, it works great with the LS2, but you have to mill the L92 heads by .30( a couple of hundred bucks most shops) to use stock gaskets and retain stock compression. You do need to get them as a set(L92 heads and L76 intake) and the intake has 39lb injectors, fuel rails and new throttle body included, all assembled. My set up numbers is as follows:
Mods: mild cam,headers,FAST,tune: 422RWHP,391RWTQ
L92/L76,headers,mild cam,tune:450RWHP,405RWTQ
were I able to purchase the L92/L76 setup before I got the FAST, I would've skipped the FAST due to the extra labor and cutting( the FAST install labor was close to the same labor for the heads and cam). Luckily, I found buyers for my "old" parts and further off set the $$. I have about $6K invested, then minus the $1500 in old parts I sold off, so not a bad return for the $$.There's some forum vendors that sell the set up or Pace/GM performance parts center does.
