So I took my Z to the dealer for a flat tire yesterday. I bought a tire warranty with the care when I bought it just in case I needed to replace one of those rear tires. I have had some clutch problems lately, didn’t think it was anything big. So they call me today and tell me that I won’t be getting my car back till next week because they need to replace the clutch master cylinder, the slave cylinder and possible the clutch. They also want to take the trany out and see how it is doing. I guess there is a leak but it isn’t leaking out of the car, it is leaking somewhere into the car. So that sucks.

Then they tell me that they took the car out to check the stick which is rattling and while driving it they got a check engine light and that my K&N intake is causing the MAF to error. Strange it never did that for me. I called K&N they said I could return it but they would also like the fouled MAF and would pay for it. They told me that they don’t believe that the K&N fouled it. I talked to the dealership and they don’t want to sell me the MAF. Which I find strange, saves them from having to turn it over to GM and doesn’t go in as a warranty issue. So I will call K&N on Monday and probably return it. The dealer said they would replace the MAF if I bring the original air intake. That pissed me off as well.

So to add to that I go to get a rental car and they give me a sea foam green HHR. I asked if I could get a CTS or something a little nicer than an HHR. They told me that I can only get something that is in the $32 a day range. If I had bought a Cadillac I could get a CTS because Cadillac’s get $54 a day for rental. Now, I might be wrong, but I bought the most expensive Chevy available and there is only one Cadillac that I am aware of that is more than a Z06. But do Corvette owners get better treatment for rental cars? No if you buy a Cobalt or a Z06 and you get the same selection of rental cars doesn’t matter. That seems a little wrong.

I could get a CTS if I wanted to pay the difference, but that wasn’t really the point the point was that for what I spent I would expect a better rental car allowance. I doubt that GM makes more money on many of their cars than they do on a Corvette let alone a Z06.

Anyway not a good day at the dealership. Losing my car for a week, fighting with them about the K&N filter deal and then getting a sea foam green HHR for a rental car. To top it off, I bought some accessories from the pro-shop and the pro-shop dude came out to take my rental and get the stuff and load it up. He walked out and asked where my rental was. I pointed at the HHR and he just started laughing and said, “They really gave you that?” I guess I am just spoiled.

First of all, if the MAF sensor is bad and they're going to replace it at your expense, the old part is yours, not theirs. In fact, you're better off telling them to leave that alone. What they're claiming doesn't sound right or something got lost in your communications.

If your car has an "internal" leak, what fluid is leaking ? Is it the differential or the tranny ? Again, something here doesn't sound right. Do you have another dealer you can take the car to ? Why were they driving your car around when you took it in for a flat tire ? Was the shifter rattling, or for that matter, was there anything wrong with the car other than a flat tire ? You mentioned the clutch problem but didn't go into much detail, I'd be cautious if I were you.

The clutch issue has been going on for a little bit. Just kind of figured it was the noisy tranny issue. But the hydrolic system for the clutch is leaking. So they are replacing the master and slave cylinders and possibly the the clutch.

I also had a problem with the rattling clutch.

The MAF they are going to replace under warranty or so they tell me. I asked to buy the MAF but they didn't really seem to want to sell it to me as opposed to replacing it under warranty.

It is all covered under warranty, but just a pain in the butt.

I misunderstood what the dealer was going to do or charge you for. If they do this under warranty, I can understand them asking the car be returned to factory built specs, including intake. Whether or not it caused any issues is besides the point.

I have about 3,000 miles on my 07 Z06 and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever so far. I also have an 07 convertible which we picked up 3 days before going to Bowling Green, and have absolutely no issues either. In fact, these two cars may be the best I've ever had. I baby the cars as to care but I don't keep my foot out of the throttle. I figure why have the power if you don't use it. Sorry to hear you're not having such a good time.

You were complaining about the dealer giving you crappy loaner. Years ago we had a Lincoln town car, cartier edition, with every option available. In the 36 months we had it, it made 26 trips to the dealer for repairs, 11 times for the transmission. They never provided me with a loaner, not even a piece of **** econo box. GM is much nicer to their car owners, even if it is an econo box.

My Z has been trouble free and I had an '06 Z51 that was great a well. Just had what I THOUGHT was a minor clutch issue and it turns out they are taking my car apart. It is killing me because I love driving that car. They just got the parts in for it so they are going to start taking it apart tomorrow. If they don't find anymore issues then I should get it back Thursday or Friday. If not then I guess another weekend of Sea Foam.

As for the HHR it isn't bad. Compaired to the overall quality of previous GM cars I have owned it is pretty good. One issue this one has is that no matter how far I go when I get out and tough the metal on the door I get the living sh!t zapped out of me. I got one through my jeans today just putting my foot down to get out. I am making sure I and the car are well grounded before I pump any gas into it. But over all it drives well and is pretty nice. It is only an LS. My only suggestion is to get a different color.

Don't feel bad. I've got a BMW 745Li. I take it for service at a local BMW dealer that has a fleet of Camrys as their loaner cars. I've complained about it but it doesn't get me anywhere. The 7 series is the flagship car. I expect at least a nice 3 series as a loaner. They are, after all, a big BMW dealer here in the Atlanta area. I wonder if the Toyota dealer uses BMWs as their loaners. I also wonder if the Mercedes place uses anything other than Mercedes' as their loaners. I hate to sound snooty, but its embarassing to be seen driving a Camry, or a seafoam HHR for that matter.

some of the rattle in low rpm and low speed in 1st or 2nd is normal i have been told by the bowling green follow-ups, and read several posts about that. My fluid levels are fine, but i have heard that rattle on other c6s under similar conditions. someone else on another post replaced the shift knob(with a Momo ) and/or the shift lever, and said that corrected it. corvette certified techs at 2 different dealers told me the same thing, looked at it and said it was normal the c6 manual tranny, your prob sounds more specific.
hate the green HHR rental for ya, one day there was a very heated thread about corvette owners not being treated better by the dealers for service. The aurguement was that lexus and other high end charge more the same service, oil change etc, that you were paying for the better loaner, and better attention that you got. I personally feel there should be more kerbecks type dedicated dealerships, that would improve the service, and certainly a better loaner. If hummer can do why cant we? i dont know the production numbers for the H2s, H1s, or H3s, but you see my point, corvette dealerships would work, improve the depreciation of the car, by stablizing prices, and certainly improve after the sale service.
On warranty items, they had to return the defective part to GM and it is then tested to be defective or the dealership will get charged for the replacement, if it isnt so am told by a couple of GM types.
hope they get it back to you in good order, my 07 Z has been very good to me, and my 06 c6 only had a defective console dimmer switch. My Z06 had to have one of driver side seat control switches replaced before i took delivery. Knock on wood, all so far. I think what i have read the 07 got some quality improvements, including the roof not peeling off in midfight.
