How fast is a stock 2007 Z06 in 5th gear at which RPM?

And how fast is a 2007 Z06 in 5th gear at which RPM with a 3.73?

Thanks for your infos. :buhbye:

~200 mph, for both 3.42 and 3.73 (the top speed is limited by the aerodynamic drag and the engine power).
You cannot obtain a higher top speed by changing the gearing alone.

Thank you for your answer!

But what RPM do you have at 200mph in 5th gear? (3.42 and 3.73)

The easiest way would just be to look up the ratios for the gears and tire size and compute the rpm from there. Although there probably is someone here with the 3.73 gears who could give you the rpm at say 60 and then from there you could figure out the rpm at 200.

How do you like the AOT compared to the orange on your Lambo? How much more do you like the Z than the Gallardo?;)

The ’07 Z06 is computer limited to 205mph (this according to my ECU program viewed with LS2 edit). There have been a few posted on forums that have achieved this. This is around 6600 in 5th. If the final drive was changed to 3.73s it would be rev limited in 5th and too high geared in 6th so it would be slower.

PS plugging in 3.73 into my gear chart puts the speed at 204 at 7100. That is probably too far off the torque peak. I believe max hp is at 6600.

:agree: , 3.73 won't do 200 mph on a stock C6 Z06.
But I don't agree that the C6 Z06 is computer limited. Yes, there is a limit in the ECU program, but the stock car won't do 205 mph.
It is the aerodynamic drag and the engine power/torque and the gearing that limits the top speed to ~200 mph.
This is academic only, but if someone wants more top speed it must deal with all these 3 factors together:
  1. Improve aerodynamics (reduce Cd, reduce frontal surface). But without affecting stability! These are contradictory factors
  2. Improve engine power/torque. A lot of power is needed! The drag force is proportional with the square of speed
  3. Re-do the gearing according to the new torque curve and the top speed objective
Going over 200 mph it is very difficult and very, very seldom possible in real life.
You need an empty autobahn or a high speed race track
Most race tracks do not have a straight long enough. The Ehra-Lessien track has two 9 km straights!

The only serious (instrumented/documented) top speed test for the C6 Z06 I know is this one:

Auto Motor und Sport, Germany, Ehra-Lessien, 320 km/h (198.8 mph):

Biturbo,
Your right, it’s academic. The two that I’ve seen were Kuwait and UAE. Who knows what is posted on the internet. They went 205 but for all we know they could have Katech motors. I know I have no place to test mine, and at my age and wallet not too sure I would anyway. On some local back roads I know my stocker (except for Halltech tune) pulls up into the 160 mph range smartly. If the magazines can get 198 out of them for their test, just the right conditions could add a few mph. Anyway, I have no complaints. On the street you can only use full throttle on this car for a few seconds, 20 seconds will get you well over 150. I'm sure yours is much the same.

If Motor Trend got it up to 198.8, a very smooth road and cooler air would definitely make 200mph feasible, and it has been done several times. That 205mph run was logged using a GPS too, so it is quite well substantiated

Do you have a reference for the 205 mph run?
Like a web link or a paper magazine number and page?
I don't trust videos, especially YouTube & co. It is very easy to "make" a 300 mph video...

To go 201 with stock size tires and stock gearing you would be turning 6400 rpm and 493 rwhp is required. There are no different gear sets, like 3.73:1, available for our differentials, so it's kinda academic, but with those gears you would be turning 6980 rpms at 201 MPH.

No, There was another thread awhile back about a Z06 hitting 205mph. Maybe do a search for it.

Your gear calculations are correct, it is theoretically possible to hit 201 mph with 3.73 (but at ~7000 rpm the engine torque/power curve would be way down as compared with the 6400 rpm).

But obviously the C6 Z06 cannot make 493 rwhp in stock form. So this is not even academic...
