More progress! The previous owner had hit a log denting the floorboard. We fixed that and got some glass work to do. We also got the dash bar to clear the speedo so I can run stock gauges still.

It will be done next weekend , we work fast!

There is no way I can afford a IRS setup for this power after getting it priced out, were about 90% locked in on the 4 link, 9" conversion.

The Ford 9 inch in stock form is only reliable to 425-450 Hp.
Years of race hard abuse.
Ultra Rare now Ford Nodular case OEM Factory is good for 550-600 HP.
Measured out again in years of hard race abuse usage.

It will take a stock back braced OEM Housing.
Or aftermarket.
35-40 spline aftermarket axles.
Race Spool.
Only a Detroit Locker is strong enough to take 1500 Hp other than a Full Race Spool.
Big Pontiac 9.3- Ford axle bearing ends.
A Daytona Pinion Support .
Or Currie, Mark Williams, Strange Engineering Ultra case, Moser 9 case.

Plans currently are for a moser 9", 40 spline axles, 3.23 gear, and spool.

I have a friend running the stock IRS setup at 9.0 8.9x times with a procharged ls3, I just want to go faster and to be reliable on an IRS is expensive as hell.

There are a lot of variations of how Ford 9 inch gears are cut made between manufacturers .
I have built Ford 9's with 7:38 :1 Gears. Roundy Round dirt track racing at 8,000-8500 rpms steady. You learn all the ins and outs with them still.

3.23 is a real tall gear even for Twin Turbo boost.
Are you after Ultra high MPH ?
2.93'S are used by some to MPH 215-230 IN 1/4 MILE.

Gearing becomes Top secret 8-seconds and faster.

Depending upon how hard your Vette launches standard 8620 gears won't be strong enough.
Strip the pinion gear and ring gear teeth right off.
9310 Nickle gears required .
I have to recheck....I recall they start at 3.73 or 4.10 9" inch Ford 9310 Nickle gears.

Pontiac 9.3 rear is only strong enough to use 8620 Alloy Steel Gearset at 1500 Hp.

Even Dana 60 requires 9310 Nickle Gears at 1500 Hp.

Twin Turbos make Huge Torque numbers.
Not just HP.

I think your over thinking the power on my build lol. My goal is to run a 8.9x which should require only about 900hp.

1500hp with our weight is 7 second territory.

I think your underestimated the HP required .
A C3 Vette is not super areodynamic like a C4 vette.
Look at the winshield rake angle on both cars.
C3 is like a Fox body 5.0... figurative speaking areo.

My friend makes 800 flywheel and is gong 9.0x's and launching on like 3psi.

What do you feel is needed to make the IRS reliable for say 800rwhp?

You have the High rise hood now.
Will take HP To get to 160 mph for 8's.

Flat Hood is best.
Packaging problem always unless its Vintage Poncho Pontiac .

We are going to take a better look at 2 of my Favorite Rear Differentials the next few days into Turkey Day - Thanksgiving weekend.
The Dana 60 & Pontiac Olds 9.3.
I am the only guy on DC That owns both Diffs with extensive Diff drag racing knowledge .

I know most want a Bullet Proof IRS to take 2000-4000 HP for $500-1000 bucks.
It Ain't going to happen. Just in your Bedtime dreams.

More work done. We added gussets, upgraded it to a 12 point with snout bars, and going to put perches on. Its almost done!! Just the seats, steering column, shifter, and turbo piping.

Who else can do a whole 12 point, seats, shifter, steering column, turbo piping, and cooling system in 12 days?!?
