What is the point of a build sheet.... and why did they put it above the gas tank where you can't get to it ?

Build sheets (stuck to the gastank) didn't come into use until the '67 model yesr.

The purpose of the build sheet was to identify all of the required options to the assembly line workers, hence it's placement on the fuel tank, which was the only relatively large flat surface on the vehicle on the assembly line until the body was put on. At that point, all the optional bits were already hung on the car, so covering up the build sheet wasn't a problem.

Rumor has it that there was usually a second copy with the body (would make sense) and that some original owners have found these stuck up behind the dash, etc.

My 2 cents

:D :D
