Yeah, I use a vacuum gauge alot to check runablity problems, an EGR valve thats stuck open will cause low vacuum at idle. Some of these newer cars will still run that way.

I got so tired of vacuum leak problems on my 78, that after I re-tubed everthing, I added a vacuum gauge under the dash next to the left console panel, so I could monitor while driving! Had to mount it to the console panel though since there is no hard point on the bottom of a '78 dash.
