Ok so this being my first big project as far as a new stereo system, I thought I would see what you all thought. I have installed systems before but nothing quite this in depth.
Specs:
Head unit- Kenwood DDX6019
Speakers-Eclipse 5 1/4 2 ways in 4 stock locations. One 8" Rockford Fosgate Sub
Amp-Eclipse XA5000 5 channel.
This is what I have so far.... The sub and amp will be covered with Plexi soon.

Stupid Bose out!

Kenwood in!
Sub install and Amp mounting....

My idea was to turn the storage doors around and use them for jack storage, because the old jack location is now a sub box. This is what she looks like now.... Plenty of new storage, and it sounds great!!! Now all I have to do is make the plexi cover for the amp and sub. There will also be some new carpet and things going in. All in all i am pretty happy with it.

Great install! This is the first time I've seen someone reverse the storage compartment like that.

Wow, that's the best idea I've seen in a while, I've been trying to figure out where to mount a sub without losing all my storage space.

Thank you! It realy was not too hard. The hardest part was sealing the top of the box with the bottom of the car. I put a small angle on the wood that connects the two and added some sealent to make it air tight. I am waiting on Plexi and then I will post this finished product. Thank you all for you thumbs up.

96 c4 audio system

That looks very nice.I am also doing a install on my 96.Already have a Kenwood double din in the dash similar to yours. What speakers are you using up front.4x6's are stock but I want something better looking at 4" components or can you fit something bigger? What size sub are you using? Is that a 5 channel amp?Did you have to do any permanent modifications in the hatch area to get the equipment in?How do you get the floor out ?

You have plenty of room to fit 4" components in the stock locations. I have 4" Eclipse components in mine. The rear you have lots of room! There is a little cave back there. I have seen a guy on this board who has put his 8" subs in that spot. Mine is an 8" also.
The floor is an easy one, remove the carpet and you will see the screws that hold the plastic doors and frame on. Remove that and the styrofoam jack holder, and your set. I framed the right side in a bit to seal off the enclosure, no permanent damage. The only thing I had to do was drill the hole for the power and ground.
I have the top installed now and will try to get some photos up tonight.

Wow! That looks AWESOME! I love it!

  1. What type of mods were necessary to the console for mounting the receiver?
  2. Do you have a picture with the display in the closed position?
  3. Do I understand correctly that you've replaced all of the stock speakers?
  4. Did you completely rewire it or did you use BOSE adapters?
Sorry for all the questions, but I would love to add this receiver to my '95, but I would do the GPS version.

The only think I had to do to make this fit was trim the dash piece about 1/8th of an inch to allow the unit to fit. Also there is a black piece of plastic behind the stock unit that had to be cut out. You can see it in the "stupid Bose out" photo. The kenwood is deeper than the stock unit.
The picture shown is the closed position. The Screen is always showing power on or off. It does tilt down to load CDs but that is all for the movement.
I did replace all the speakers and completely rewired it to except the new system. The speaker wires on the stock system are way to small to take any kind of wattage. Also I wanted the system to be fused outside of the normal car fuses.
The DDX6019 has all kinds of add-ons you can get. I just put in the bluetooth cell phone adapter and will add the Nav soon.
The sound is great! The 8" sub is a very clean hard hitting speaker and the eclipses in the stock locations sound great. I have added Neon and repainted my dash parts, Ill get some photos up tonight.
Let me know if you have any questions, I am glad to help.
