I have a 2003 6 speed manual vert. with 36000 miles. LG street pro long tube headers with high flow cats, borla catbacks with dual k&n intake. hurst performance short shifter. About 5000 miles ago i noticed a whining noise that's gotten louder. I drive the car daily as long as the weather is good. I would like more up and go without losing my daily driver. I'm thinking of adding a procharger super charger. My problem is that the car is at the dealer now and they may need to replace the differential much sooner then I planned. I don't even know what the stock setup is but from what i have read it sounds like a 3.73 setup would be a great upgrade. I've heard a 4.10 would make 1st gear useless. If i do upgrade the gears should i change anything else? This gears stuff is all brand new to me so please help if you know what you are talking about. I'm a little scared of the cost of this stuff but if i've got to fix things i might as well step up a bit. Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

You should know that the higher end ratio gears (such as 3.73 and 4.10) are gonna be less reliable and w/ high hp setups more prone to breakage. However, if you expect to rebuild the differential on a somewhat often basis, then I would go w/ 3.90's. Right in between the "street" and "race" gears. That's just me though. However if you supercharge AND go w/ 3.90's then your in for some tire blazin' for sure.

edit: 3.73's should be fine actually, even w/ big numbers.

All C5's with a standard transmission (M6/12) came with a 3:42 gear from the factory.

For a true daily driver I'd keep the 3:42's. Some will make the argument that a ProCharger is a pooch down low and a 3:90 gear will help you get into the power band sooner, but the problem is that the 3:90's and 4:10's are not as strong as the 3:42.

i am pissed to say the least. :thud: i wish i knew why this happened. i guess i drive my car on the hard side, meaning i rarely put it in 6th and i like to keep the rpms around 3000 but i don't go crazy. i think i have done a total of say 5 burnouts since i got the car in 2003. i take very good care of my car and nobody else has driven it other then the dealer tech. about a year ago the dealer replaced the rear seals because they were leaking. to do that they had to drop the entire rear axle. i wonder if they could have screwed something up when they put everything back together. now that the car is out of warranty the bill falls on me.

the rpms dont sound that high but that must suck if the person you bring to repair screwed it up but put it back together soon and cruise for at least 20 miles with the stereo cranking and it will be soon forgotten GOOD CRUISING:thumbsup:

Why not go see ECS in creme ridge NJ or vette tech up in Newburg NY ?

Vette doctors in amityville NY?

I'm sure they can give you good insight and maybe even an upgrade if you like?

It really sucks i'm about an hour and a half from both ECS and Vette Tech kinda in the middle. I didn't want to drive the car that far but it 's looking like i don't have much of a choice. I've spoken to both, vette tech is probably closer and a little less expensive but ECS has a full shop dyno and all. Damn, knowing me if i go to ECS i'm sure i won't leave without a procharger suddenly 2 grand will be 10 grand. I hope the wife doesn't read this...

Just got off the phone with Chris at ECS. He ordered a new Z06 3.42 rear end. As soon as it comes in i can drive down and he will swap it out in a few hours while i wait. He thinks the 3.42 setup is best for my car since i want to add a supercharger. The guys at ECS know a lot more about this stuff then me so i'm going with his recommendation. This gives me a chance to go and check out his shop and get more info on the supercharger.
