Hi,

We have a 75 vette and I was wandering what's the purpose of the valve which is installed in the hood.

For picture see the links:

As I can see and as I have been told, a solenoid is missing in my assembly.
The valve povides access for air to enter from the hood grille to the air cleaner (through an internal channel inside the hood).
The valve is supposed to be open at full throttle?

Now I have a few questions.
1. I've taken the complete assembly away. Does this mean more air?
2. When speeding, I assume there will be more vacuum than overpressure at the grill / wiper compartment? If there is overpressure, is it significant?
3. What was the reason for GM to use such a valve?
4. The valve is supposed to be open at full throttle?

Just curious!

Greetings

the valve opens when you push the accelerator past a certain mark, letting more cold air into the carb, giving a bigger bang.. i took mine out a while back and the car runs better without.

This means a overpressure is generated and air is flowing from the grille / wiper compartment to the air cleaner.

I have not noticed a improvement at all, but then again only 165 horses up to now. I bet you have more:thumbsup: .

it's a well known fact that the cowl is a high pressure area, hence cowl induction, many race cars including nascars still use that system to date.

It works, I saw induction at as low as 25 MPH.

@ Twinturbo
This means there is significant overpressure. I think I will order a K&N filer which is also open on the top.
Every bit helps. Maybe 166 horses :surprised

@ JPhil
At first I thougt your grill would fly away without the ropes:D
Then after the real size picture, the purpose was very clear. Good trick!!!!:thud:

I've put the valve in my storage and won't be needing it anymore.

Thanks!
