Why does the Hood have to open backwards?

Seriously, why does the hood have to open ass-end up? It makes it so much harder to work in the front of the vehicle.

For instance, to work on the air intake, you have to lean over and reach over towards the front middle, while standing to the side. Kills my lower back, I'll be laid up for 3 days after an hour messing with that. Any normal vehicle where the hood opens face-up it'd be much easier.

So seriously, someone tell me 1 advantage to designing the hood to open front-hinged compared to regular cars, besides just to look cool.

infotament funfact # 47

the purpose of a rear opening hood is that in the event of latch failure at high speeds the hood will stay down, this was the norm in many autos until there were decapitations in accidents due to the hood going through the windshield as the nose collapsed. if you notice on the corvettes there are two beefy looking l shaped brackets to ensure this does not happen. also with a longer nose you would have trouble reaching across the front of the car to change spark plus as the vettes engines are mounted more rearward for more weight balance.

Yeah I kind of thought about the hood-opening thing at high speeds. But really, can't design be improved for front-opening hoods for this? I mean, you don't hear of heavy Rustang modders or other modders that can enter very high top speeds, who change the design of their hood openings.

I'd say one benefit is that "it got you laid for 3 days in a row".....:rolling:

When someone asks what is under the hood and wants to see the engine bay, the hood tells you all the people that nothing about a Vette.

They are the ones that stand in front of the car when you pop the hood.

So the hood direction has allot of uses.
Except aiding in the changing of air filters.
