Wind Restrictor Installation Issue

334 Views 22 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Triple dizzle
I bought a Wind Restrictor to put in my 2008 convertible. Installation itself appears to be fairly straight forward, however I have on problem. How do I keep my power top from closing on me every 5 minutes while working? Videos on Youtube say to tie it back and someone else mentioned propping it open with a broom stick. But nobody shows exactly what they tie the folding roof to or where to place the broom stick. Any one done this before or have any ideas? Pictures would help, too.

Welcome aboard. Open the top, remove the fuse to the top motor, replace when done.
Look in O's M at the fuse box diagram, find the fuse that controls that aspect, remove.

First RPM welcome to the DC. I have a short 1 by I custom cut just for that. Just find a place where it doesn’t damage the top or any of the hydraulics. You will like the Wind restrictor makes a big difference.

Norm the tonneau cover looses hydraulics pressure and then closes. It has to be propped open so he can put the brackets in.

Doesn't the motor close it as same as opening?
Yes but the tonneau has to stay open. The hydraulics bleed off after about five minutes and it will close on it own. As far as the top I use a bungee hook it on the header and part that seals to the trunk. But I thought you put the top all the way down and just had to prop the tonneau up to make that installation.

This is the postition the roof and tonneau must be in.

Bungee the top prop the tonneau. Take a bungee bend the hooks out to 90’s and if it’s too long tie a knot in it. Prop the tonneau with a piece of wood. That’s pretty much what I did when I installed mine. Forgot the back of the top had to be up. Sorry.
Prop the tonneau under the latch and to the floor of the top storage area. Make your prop a little short and let the tonneau bleed down to it. That way your not putting pressure on the tonneau. Do the same with the bungee just a little to long and let the top bleed back so not to stress the top.

Not sure what you are saying. In the 2 videos I've watched there is nothing propping the tonneau cover open. Only the roof tied back, but I don't know to what. I tried and it closed anyway.
Oh mine they both would bleed off. Nothing like having a tonneau wack you in the back of the head.
I give up, mine’s been on for three years and I love it. Good luck.
Look if all you have to do is keep the top from bleeding off put a bungee on it and install the wind restrictor. Just make sure the hooks don’t mess with your weather strips. Hook one on the front run it across the top hook the other end on the back. The bungee has enough give it won’t hurt the top.

I'll give it a try.
Thanx.
Get that thing in you’ll love it. Cuts down on the air circling back up between the seats. Top down windows up almost no air coming in like a big sun roof.

Guys on a C6 you can stop the top anywhere in its function. Undoing the fuse will not prevent the hydraulics from bleeding off. Once this happens the cylinders on the top release gravity takes over and the top closes.
Post pics of it installed I’ll do the same.

I purchased the plain one. My book keeper won’t let me splurge on the engraved one with the corvette logo. Plus I wasn’t sure I’d like looking through that every time I used the rear view mirror.

So, when I bungeed the roof in place, the toneau cover closed. My neighbor came up with the idea of using a foam block to prop both open. The Wind Retsrictor is now in!
