Well the top speed of the 2001 rated at 350 hp was around 180 mph. A 2006 Z06 rated at 505 hp is around 198 mph. So the GS rated at 436 hp should top out at about 190 mph

You have to remember top speed depends on a lot of things.

Power curve and gearing.
Horse power
Weight
The cars coefficient of drag
The cars rolling resistance.

Just to name a few.

So you would think , but GM doesnt offer an official top speed as they did with the 08-09 LS3's ( 190 ) . The GS has worse aero and weighs more . The only published figures I have seen were 182 drag limited by Car and Driver . 182 is low to begin with in this day and age , and if its slowing badly in the 160's thats very poor .

 

Look in the PCM, GM set speeds to
205 MPH for Z06,
210 for ZR1,
194 for LS3 models and
184 for LS2 models

 

Doesnt mean its capable of it , and the LS2's were set for 186 .

 

I wouldn't even know where I could legally hit top speed within 100 miles of where I live.

 

How do you verify top speed? Are we taking Speedo readings? Are we using GPS data. Honestly with the GS being 80hp down and heavier than the Z06, which has a GM claimed 198 top speed, I would see the GS in the 180-185 range. Just me, but 180 is still smoking fast!
