Hey I was wondering how paddle shifters handle, my boyfriend said they weren't for Vettes, but I don't know, because I heard somebody else talking about them. Some help?:D :D :D

I drove a 2006 and a 2007 with the paddle shifter. The shifting was not firm like you would expect it to be. If your not completly into the throttle the car is still going to shift when it wants to, not when you want it to. At low speeds after you shift the car shifts about a second later. This setup seems kind of generic.

NO, NO!! Get the Paddle Shift! It’s GREAT!

I also have an 08 MB E-350 Sport and it’s “supposed” to have a Paddle Shift
of sorts. But, it’s definitely not the same. It works from the shift-stick and
you have to be stopped to put it in or out of the Sport position. With the
C-6, you can shift in and out of Sport and Drive as much as you want, even
if you are going 100.

So the one on the MB is useless. My C-6, I use all the time. It’s especially
fun to use with my Magnaflow pipes when I want to back-down my speed
and hear the little pops! (Love it, love it!)

My C-6 is an 06 and since I don’t use it on the tracks, it shifts PLENTY fast
for me!

By the way, I just noticed that the new 08 Malabu has Paddle Shifters.
That will really make it a cool car for that price range. I thank GM for the
great Paddle Shifters!

I have paddles and they are not "instant".This means there is a lag ,when you push the button there is a lapse of time untill you are in the next gear.I've heard that the 08 are better tuned therefore shift "faster".Downshifting seems to be much quicker into the next lower gear.

I personally don't mind it since I also own a Merc CLK 430 and so I am used to the little "lag".I enjoy the vette's shifting better.
I would prefer to have much sharper shifts at full throttle.I believe that you should shift about 500 RPM before the actual RPM you want.I don't know the exact difference in RPM or milliseconds between the manual or paddle but I do believe they are close.
If you like the "feel" of manually shifting, the paddles will never be good enough for you.

I have owned manual cars(RX7,Escort GT,couple of Hondas),but I wouldn't ever go back to a manual.I do believe the new automatics perform better than ever.I enjoy the option to control the revs, yet, having the car in "drive" is great in traffic and on days where you just don't feel like shifting.IMHO I think you get the best of both worlds but that's just my .02 ($CAN) which by the way are worth more than the .02 (US$) these days...;) :D ......

I have an '08 vert with paddles. Picked it up at the Corvette Museum and drove to the Smokey Mountains to drive the Tail of the Dragon. The paddles worked great. The shifting was quick and responsive. The car handled terrific. Test drive one and hopefully you'll feel the same way I do about them

I use my C6 as a daily driver and no longer care to push a manual through stop and go rush hour traffic so when I opted for the automatic I thought the paddle shifters would be perfect for those twisty backroads on a weekend joy ride. I tried it in paddle mode a couple of times and was not impressed. The shifting is not crisp, there is a definate lag and if you're not heavily on the throttle it shifts on its own anyway. The paddles are not a replacement for having a manual tranny, luckily for me I have 2 other cars in the garage that have manuals for when I feel the need to stir my own. Otherwise I just put the C6 in drive and go.

I belive GM posted that the A6 in paddle mode shifts at .04 seconds....much faster than a human can shift a manual. Manuals seem faster due to the fact the driver is more involved and don't notice the time it takes to go from gear to gear. Clutch engagement, gear selection, and gear engagement with a top notch driver is about .12 seconds. If the A6 stock is too soft for you, try getting the new tune thats out for it...you'll still notice a little "lag", but your head will be buried in the headrest during it.....

I had an 06 with paddle shift and it did have a slight lag both up and down. I now have an 08 with paddle shift and it is quicker with minimal delay when shifting up or down.

With the 06 I could use it for slowing down so I would not have to brake so hard when coming to a red light or stop sign. I did not use it much for up shifting though.

With the 08 down shifting matches the required engine RPM to the gear you are shifting into.

IE: If you are in 6th at 1200 RPM, when you shift to the next lower gear the RPM changes to:

Gear RPM
5th 1500
4th 2000
3rd 2700
2nd 4200

This is not as good for slowing down as it was in the 06.

I also have the optional 2.73 ratio performance axle for automatic transmission, along with the optional, Z06-style exhaust system which has the 2.5 inch pipes.

At maximum load, butterfly valves open in two of the four exhaust runners to reduce back pressure. The result is six more hp and 4 pound-feet of torque, for a total of 436 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque.

The system makes a robust, throaty sound under power but remains quiet during normal driving.

The 08 six-speed automatic provided very crisp shifts compared with 06 I had.

According to the factory, the transmission has been improved with new hardware and controller calibrations that deliver quicker responses.

This translates into 30 percent faster up-shifts and 50 to 75 percent faster down-shifts.

I hope this has been of some help to you.

My '07 has the A6, and I defy anyone to prove that they can possibly shift faster with a M6. By the time you put the clutch to the floor, if you aren't pussy-footing with the gas, the A6 will have shifted to the next higher gear. Sure, drive slowly and there is hesitation, but drive the Vette like it is intended and she responds!!!!!!

I love my F/I A6 C6! The second to third shift can be pretty insane at WOT!
I say, dump the boyfriend and get an A6! If you want a test drive I'm available!
