Engine Mount Replacement

Getting ready to replace my engine and tranny mounts in preparation for installing my exhaust headers and VBP spreader bar.

Took a good look, over and under, and seems pretty straight forward. RED FLAG RED FLAG. :smack

Other than removing the fuel pump to get one of the bolts out, any other gotchas (or tips/tricks) that may not be readily apparent?

Thanks,

Obviously, you'll need to support the eight of the engine in order to get the bolts out. You'll have to find the sweet spot where the bolts are loose enough to pull out, because if you lift the engine too far the bolts will be pinched against the tops of the barrels by force of the jack.

Once the bolts are out, you can change the engine mounts. Leave the transmission mount alone for now.

Put the new engine mounts in with the bolts finger tightened but don't snug them down yet. Once they are all loosely bolted in, and the barrel bolts are back through and tightened so they are not quite clamping, drop the weight of the engine.

Now, move the jack back, and lift the rear of the transmission enough to unbolt the transmission mount. Same process, replace it, and tighten everything by hand or right before there is torque resistance. Once that is done, drop the weight down and go through and final torque everything, both engine and transmission mounts.

Tips: :D

Don't jack the engine up from the pan or the crank. Actually the best way would be a cherry picker.

If you have to use a jack. Wedge some blocks of wood between the frame and engine to safely block the engine up, just in case.

Add some of your favorite penetrating fluid to exposed threads the night before to soak.

Verify you have all the parts you need before you start.

Make sure you have at least a 12 pack in the fridge to celebrate victory. :D

Old mounts were in terrible shape.

The one on the right is the passenger and fell a part once I removed the main bolt. The left is the driver and is separated in the center from the block mount plate.

The Energy Suspension Polys are in but I still have to do the tranny mount.
