I have a 2001, six speed.

Drive it everyday. Drove it on Saturday. Shifted hard just playing around. Everything seemed fine. On Sun. the car would not start. The starter would not engage.

I have done the following:
Jumped, won't start
new battary, AC/Declo, no start
jumped, no start.
cleaned the keys, no start
checked fuse 14 and 52, all good, no start.
positive cable to the starter is good.
Checked DIC codes, no codes.

Any suggestions.

I about to have it towed to the chevy dealer.

Thanks

Right, the car will not turn over.
the lights on the dash and the gages all work just fine. when I turn the key to start nothing happens.
battery volts read 11.6 now. If I jump, the volts are 12.3.
Still will not start with a jump.

I also just looked at the cluch safty switch and it seems fine.

If everything seems to be working, then I doubt it's a battery problem. Did the starter ever make any strange noises? Like a whinning noise? Did it ever hang? Anything ever happen that made you think in the back of your mind "that's odd, or that's new"? If so, think hard and remember what it was. That is where you need to start looking.

My starter began making a whinning noise a few months back. I raced it to the dealer and told them to check it out. I have an X Warr. on the car and they said it was going bad (of course). I didn't care, $100 ded. for me. But what I found amusing, is the starter they put on it was $495 (parts, labor and tax). But it comes with a GM lifetime warranty that covers parts and labor (non transferable). I told the guy I never heard of such a thing. He said it was something to do with replacing starters on certain vehicles rather than GM issuing a mass recall.

I am still having an issue with my volts reading low on my car as well. This just began a month ago. I replaced my battery (optima red top), and the new battery does it too. Sometimes I can go to crank up and the volts are in the 11's... but quickly get up to 13.6-13.8 while running. I am on my way to have the alternator checked out.

I will keep you posted with what the dealer says.

I was having the same issue with my 2000 C5. My mechanic started looking for a short somewhere. I took it to AutoZone and had them run a FREE check. Turns out my alternator was bad. $169 and a half hours work and it fixed the problem. Got in the car today after not driving it for 5 or 6 days,.. started right up!

I had a similar situation Happen.I disconnected the ground on the battery then re-connected it.Everything returned to normal. You will have to unlock your radio after you try this.

WHen trying check the theft deterrent relay for clicking, try swapping it with a relay from a system that you know works.

If you can get to the starter check the purple wire for signal voltage when attempting to start. You say you checked fuse 14,crank relay?, did it have 12volts when cranking?

Have you tried jumping the clutch start switch with a paperclip to eliminate it?

Schematic if you don't have it and need it

The Chevy dealer called back so I wanted to give everyone an update.

The problem was a burned starter relay. Said it was the first time they had seen that.

So I get to pick it up today. Nice that it was a half day job.

Hope it's not too good to be true. :surprised

Thanks again to everyone that gave me some advice. I got to learn a lot about the car very quickly.

Thanks. :buhbye:

The work order shows 12193604 Relay. It also says Cause: starter relay faulty.

As you said the electronic diagram does not show a starter relay so you will need to look up the part number and see if you get a different description.

by the way, they double checked everything you guys told me to check.

Thanks again for the help.
