You need to replace the hazard switch in the dash:thumbsup:

 

Try changeing the flasher first, check you book for the location, they are 2 flashers one for the 4 ways and one for the R and L signals, or just take the flasher out of the 4 ways and put it in the turn sig location.

If it works then you just need one new flasher.

 

Hey Widetrack, you've actually figured out what is wrong with your car without knowing it. The Punisher has given you one option to fix the problem and here is why that will solve the issue.

The turn signals are wired through the hazard switch. Your hazard switch's contacts have become dirty and thus when you use the turn signals, sometimes they don't work. By pressing the hazard switch, you temporarily clean the contacts on the hazard switch and complete the turn signal circuit which causes them to work for a bit. Of course they will soon stop working and you'll have to repeat the process over. This is a well documented problem with the C5.

Replacing the hazard switch is a little bit of work and the hazard switch contacts will eventually get dirty again one day. A more permanent fix is to purchase the hyperflash or bypass cable. This will bypass the hazard switch in the turn signal circuit and solve the problem for good. If you ever decide to change your tail lights to LED's, this cable will also be needed because LED's do not produce the wattage of stock lights and confuse the computer into thinking that there is a blown bulb which makes the tail lights hyperflash (flash at a very rapid pace). Thus, this cable is insurance for the future and will solve your issue at hand.

If you still want to replace the hazard switch, here are your instructions. If you want to buy the cable, you can call Richard at Corvette Enhancements at 1-800-946-4929 with your Visa or Master Card. He doesn't have this cable listed on his website and that is why you need to call him first.

The cable takes about 15-20 minuted to put in if you are a mechanic, or you can make a production out of it like everything I do. No really, it's an easy install. Here are the instructions:

This unit is fully self-contained. No other parts are required. It's completely Plug-N-Play. You'll simply uncouple the connectors of your OEM harness located under your steering column, then place our unit in between those couplings, and reconnect. That's it!

Dropping the knee bolster is rather simple to. You don't have to disassemble the entire center console (like I did and made a production of it), you only have to remove 2 screws that hold the top of the knee bolster on the car, and then gently pull the area where your key goes away so that you can slip the knee bolster out. The first picture shows this. Your cable will come with instructions on what to do which will be more clearer if necessary.

Great info Junkman2008 , Richards' bypass is really the way to go. Dropping the knee panel without removing (or loosening the left side of the stereo surround) is a no brainer. HOWEVER getting the knee panel back in with the stereo surround in place is frustrating to say the least. God bless whoever came up with that interior temp sensor arrangement :smack I've done it that way more than a few times and always swear that it's my last time without removing the stereo surround.........Grandpa always told me ignorance is Bliss

The first time I did it, I ended up taking everything apart. Mind you, it was the first time that I had done much of anything to the Vette so I started at about 3PM one day and ended up at 6AM the next morning! :thud:

One good thing did come from it though. I made this DIY!

Thanks for the replies I will try the suggestions this week. I am not real sure how the knee boster cames apart but I will try and figure it out and install the extra bypass wire instead of a new switch.

You could go the long route and follow the instructions at Vette Essentials website (work your way down to step 5d) but if you get the harness, there will be no need to figure out anything. The cable will come with the instructions on how to get the knee bolster off.

I posted about turn signals not working and was given a phone number for corvette enhancements which is not working I need to find the bypass flashing unit that corvette enhancments used to sell does anyone know where I can purchase the turn signal fix plug and play unit. i bought the bypass and replaced it and its blinking fine but my front DRL did not come back on, i have not checked the bulb to see if it went out with all the crazy flashing so im hoping the new bulb will fix things.
