Almost 5 months after the C7 was introduced, we still don't have HP & TQ numbers.
Seems rather odd - could there be a problem??

:surprised You won't see those numbers till just before they start building the car.. The mule cars are still undergoing testing to determine and finalize those numbers.

I would expect production to begin sometime around the end of June in recognition of the 1st production Anniversary. Only of course, if GM has any "Heritage" left in their big Corvette plan.

They already gave us the numbers in oct. 2012 ;)

450hp and 450lb ft of torque which will be enough to make it the fastest (base) corvette ever...

And yes I know it's an estimation... but an estimation is finding a number that is close to the exact final number. So maybe 445hp or 455hp??

I think the Active Rev Match will be fun!

Must have options: Z51 +magnetic ride +performance exhaust

I am not as optimistic as the rest of you - dealers w/ allocation were able to order cars this week - I find it strange that GM expects people to order a car w/o knowing the
engine or performance specs of the vehicle - I could be wrong but it seems unusual to operate like this.

GM isn't releasing numbers on any of the GenV engines early they are waiting until just before launch. The 4.3L stuff for the trucks came out a week or so ago at about the same time the press first got to drive the trucks.

I haven't heard that GM has scheduled the media day for the C7 yet (where they put the press into the cars for first drives). It apears that GM has a new time period of releasing numbers. The used to have them at the debut, but now it's just before the media reviews start.

The LT1 numbers aren't that interesting to me. Yes the LT1 is potent but the REAL oem/production capability of the Gen V platform won't be known until the next Z06 debuts. The LT1 will just have whatever performance marketing thinks is best. What WILL interest me about the LT1 is how it accepts and responds to various tuning tricks. :partyon: That is somewhat unknown with DI, AFM, and especially VVT.

They have certainly as of late waited to release numbers, though they gave an est. and they also stated cars in which it will have a better power to weight ratio then.

In my honest opinion, it isn't the 1960s where the most important number for a car was it's horsepower. Now days the more important number especially for a sports car is increasingly it's lap times. While the horsepower rating still has merit in on internet forums I do think that people would be more impress with a car that has less horsepower and yet turns faster lap times. For example the C6 Z06 (with all of the go fast goodies) post faster lap times on some tracks then the ZR1 Corvette (also with all of the goodies).

Though I wouldn't be shocked if GM was spacing out launches and information release to give all of the products this year it's own time.

For me, the simple fact that the Z51 C7 is running competitive lap times to the Z06 is more then enough to amaze me. Considering the price of the C6 Z06 and it's engine, brakes, wider tires etc....it is like a Miata keeping up with a base C6.

Yea I think we're seeing a shift in how GM builds up to the release of new products. Personally I don't like the no numbers thing, but if you think about it they are leaking out little tidbits of information here and there. The last one was weight.

As for the lap times, I think your going to see that GM learned a lot from putting together the ZL1. I think to date that might be GM's be vehicle at completely integrating all of the performance equipment installed on it.

I'm sure that with the C7's better chassis and technology they were able to push that even further down the road and carry it even farther. I'm really liking the new GM overall, I think that though have had some misses, they are putting together "complete cars" that are better balanced.

Sorry don't see a C7 Z51 stingray beating a 2013 Z06 with the Z07 package and cup tires. Competitive yes but not faster. Of course that Z06 will cost 100K . As for the numbers I just don't think they are as important as how fast it is. Look at the Euro cars, less power but faster in a straight line because of the trannys and electronics. GM needs a 8 speed & a Dual Clutch tranny for their premium brands. Until then they are American cars that only American buyers will buy in decent numbers.

It hink your going to see it be closer tot he base than you think. There is a HUGE difference bewteen a regular Z06 and one with the Z07 package on a technical track.

As for your talk about lower power cars being faster. 99% of it has little to nothing to do with the transmission. It's mostly traction limited. The Zr1 is terrible off the line compared to a some cars and that's because even with launch control you can only put so much power through 2 tires.

The Dual clutch stuff is nice but it's not the end all be all. It's adds a good bit of cost and sometimes weight.

Chevy is either sandbagging hard or worried about an outcry. There is a reason that they haven't released anything, and I am sure we can be sure of 450/450, but I tend to suspect that the median guesstimate of 475 will be off. Either higher (and they are sandbagging to sell remaining C6s) or lower (and they are worried about losing pre-sales).
