I hope so. My bone stock '96 LT4 car ran a 12.74. My stock GS bested 13.03. I think both of those would hurt a new Mustang easily.

Your top speed is in the 150's, I recall.

In think you can beat a mustang GT.... My 94 has beaten two but lost to one. And the highest top speed I have gotten too was 157 mph and that was coming back from South Padre Island and running from a cop in the median... to top it off those streets were underconstruction but don't worry their were no people at risk it was like 4:20 in the morning.

It depends on your gears. If you have the 3.08 gears you will have a great shot at it, but the higher gears will put you at a disadvantage.

Remember new stangs have 300hp but....... They weight much more than a c4 plus their suspension doesent help a lot on take off. Last mustang I raced before I did my new upgrades which I jsut finished this week :) The stang almost hit my vette because the stang was goign side ways like most of the time with them. They dont have good control.( experience from the 2 mustangs I used to own).

totally agree, and have driven (beat on) a new mustang recently. my 94 would have no problem with it. even when i ran the gears out on the mustang it still didn't pull like my polo green does........

Your '87 should beat a new Rustang GT.. I have a '86 L98 w/auto and have topped out at 157 mph due to hthe cars gearing.... damn 3.08 gears... haha.. still wanted to pull but the gearing wouldn't allow it..

beating new mustang

i had a 87 tpi 4+3 manual and i beat a 05 gt 5speed and a 99 cobra 5spd. by a good 3 cars each and raced the cobra on the highway 4 times in a row and he never came within a car length. i had slight bolt on like bbk throttle body flowmasters summit coil wires and plugs and a k&n. now they cant even see my license plate in my 90 zr-1. you should be close

If the new mustangs can REALLY turn low to mid 13's,then I would have to say no because the c5's are turning low to mid 13's stock, and the c5's stock are faster than c4's stock. Now if you have a lt4 (330 hp rather than lt1's 300)you can turn times equal to or very close to times a stock c5 (non z06) will turn,so you should be able to beat a stang. Also,i think ford is playing the numbers game.If a new stang can turn a low to mid 13 sec 1/4,then i think it has more power than they're telling us.They rate the mustang cobra at 390 hp,but it really puts out about 420.I saw a european car in a mag that uses the same exact motor as the cobra, and it says in the article and in the stats that it has 420hp.I have seen test of a base model lt1 powered c4 that says it does 168 mph and i have seen ones that said it will do 155.Either way the c4 vette leaves the mustang in top speed.I think the stock c4 vette will do 160 easy.Hell, my stock 6 speed 94 z28 has buried the speedo well past the 150 mark.It just matters where you try it.When i did it the first time, it was when i lived in FL where the roads are real long and real straight. It all depends on the numbers.if they are correct and the new gt's can turn low to mid 13's,then how will you beat it with a lt1 powered vette if they can turn 0-60 in around 5.5 and do the 1/4 in high 13's to low 14's? Just like any other car however i have seen the mag test showing 13.3 - 13.5 for the stang and seen others much slower, but i can't see how a heavier car with only 300 hp can turn a 13.3 sec 1/4 mile when it takes a stock c5 (non z06) with 345-350 hp to turn the same time.It doesn't make sence.

new slowstang

Ford better get with it. My '72 cutlass w/ a 330 hp chevy crate engine walked away from my cousin in his '05 GT 5 speed. I have a very heavy convertible, old rebuilt turbo 350, 3.42 rear, & straight out of the crate engine. I would like to see Ford put that car on a dyno. Go for it. That thing can't touch your vette!

The regular mustangs run like 15.3's... I've seen sum 05 Gt's snap 13.3's-13.5's in the 1/4.
Ill beleive it when i see it. The previous year V6s were supposedly able to get 15.5-15.8 in their fastest form. The most ive gotten in my truck is a 15.89....ive never had one even stay with me out on an open road. The best one to stay near me was a 5spd coupe v6, and he was still trailing by 2-3 car lengths.

blubui- ford was with it with the 99-04s, they were light, made good power, and could put down some impressive numbers. Heck look at their cobra. in 03/04 you could get them to over 400rwhp for like 600 bucks. They are

These new ones....weak, they need to do something about them. Look at their new Shelby Cobra that could be coming, like 450hp...bet it runs a high 12 stock with all that power (and pay 50k for it more then likely)

Lol I feel like renting one of the new stangs and taking it to the dyno thats close to my house. I am going to ask my friend Julio who owns 5 mustangs and works for Ford.

Now remember that does 1/4 mile tests with the stangs were done with Pro drivers. In the street is a different thing when about 80% of the owners dotn really know how to drive their car.

I have seen 8-10 new Mustang GTs run at our local track (1/8th mile) here in Fort Worth and have yet to see one get into the 8s. What a piece of crap. I can't believe people spend 30k on a "performance car" that slow. I saw two GTs get killed by a stock WRX station wagon! If you need 4 seats, buy the GTO. At least it's numbers are respectable.

Ofcourse man. Dont forget they had a SC from factory. If my 84 came stock from factory with a SC then I would of just changed the pulley and be well over 400. See thats one thing that lowers my likes about stangs a lot. They had to put a super charger to keep up with a vette LOL!!!! Right now I dotn have a SC and I smoke 03/04 stock cobras and its an 84 which is 20 yrs older.

i was comparing the mustangs...the mark up on the first 05s was almost as much as a left over 03/04 cobra

BODY; slow stangs

the mags are a not letting you know the whole truth and i believe any new
stang WITH the weight and lack of torque and the way they rated the hp
for the car doesn't add up. if the new stang was rated the way the new zo6
is rated i guess the stang would be around 280 to 290 hp its a harder test..
the new stang g.t. should only run about 14.0 to about 14.5 with only 300hp
any thing above this is a ringer..13.3 for a mustang with piss poor aerodynamics, body weight and not torque would have to be putting out about 375 plus hp's. and i find that hard to believe. i see 05 400hp gto's
not getting better times than this yes 400hp vs 300hp and like another
member wrote c-5's with 345 to 350 hp have a hard time turning a 13.3 bone stock i have seen them as slow as 13.8 to 13.9 average is about 13.5 faster
cars see 13.2 to 13.3 these numbers have been turned by stock 375 or 385hp
zo6's and it takes a 405hp zo6 to slip into the 12's and some don't either
i saw one run 13.4 with 405hp 6-speed killer suspension and low areo drag
with big tires and a light weight vette with torque to match....so it ain't so!!

a stock 1987 vette auto. should see a top speed of 155 to 158mph just depends on the car. you may loose to a stock 05 stang in the 1/4
u only have 235hp and 335lbs and run out of air at about 4700rpms you should turn mid 14's the stand should turn a little lower 14's and nip u
you will kill him out the hole and have about 2 car lenghts on him at about mid track then his high reving engine will start to reel u in at about 3/4 track
he will be near you at about 1200 feet it would be a tie then over the next 120 feet he will pull u about a haft a car bang! its done right at the end u wish to God u had an lt1 with its ability to rev and its extra 65horses
or a 75 shoot of nos...with a little work and dollars spent right u can kill nearly any stock of modified stands real easy....race results something like this 87' vette 14.5 @ 96mph 05 gt stang 14.3 @ 99mph! a typical real world
race.........

i'm trying to find a new daily...local ferd dealer has a red mustang that looks interesting, so i stopped for a closer look, ended up salesman twisting my arm to drive it--what a dog--my 20 yr old vette, modded but smog legal and totally streetable, would kill that stang....i wouldn't normally say that based only on seat-of-pants feelings but there's noooo question....search reopened
